Just What I Needed

Today I’m back at it from a 6 day break.  Taking some extra vacation days before the long weekend was perfect.  And even though I’d hoped that the weather would be warm and sunny, I have to admit I didn’t mind the cold, rainy days one bit.  The rain was the perfect excuse to sleep in, read, relax and truly slow down.

Wednesday I was able to check out Fusion Fest and met one The Next Fitness Star Finalists, which was awesome and left me sore for days.  Michael and I met up for lunch afterwards.  He always comes home talking about his lunches and I’m always jealous.  Anytime I’m in the city on a day off and can have lunch with Michael I try to! It’s so fun to meet up mid-day and try out all of his different lunch spots.

Thursday I met my friend and her new baby for lunch and some shopping.  It was so fun to meet up with a girlfriend, catch up and get some shopping done.  I had my second shopping trip to Athleta as sponsored athlete so we had some fun picking out different things and trying them all on.  In the end I got a new bikini, running shorts, yoga crops, a linen skirt, a sun dress, a super cute tank, a sports bra and a new water bottle.   It was such a fun afternoon.

Friday was a true down day.  I laid in bed and slept until about 10am, read my book for hours and headed out for a run before going into Boston to meet Michael for dinner on a very rainy evening.  We tried a new to us Mexican restaurant which was so good.  There’s nothing like guacamole and margaritas…one of my favorite combinations!

Saturday and Sunday were cold and rainy.  It’s rare when Michael and I sleep in and relax but that’s exactly what we did.  We slept in, laid in bed reading (I FINALLY finished that book I’ve been reading since July!), had a leisurely breakfast and then decided what to do.  It’s our “vacation mode” if you will.  Both days we ended up going out to do a bit of shopping.  I finally bought an ipad mini.  I’d been wanting one since they came out.  I have to go to San Diego for work on Friday so it seemed like it was the perfect time.  I love it! We spent both evening at home, watching movies and snuggled up.  It was perfect!

Yesterday we slept in again and enjoyed our final lazy morning.  The weather finally cleared here, and it warmed up!  We have been working on clearing the gardens and cleaning up our landscaping so we spent some time working on that, and getting ready for the week ahead of us.  It was relaxing but productive.

My time off felt like the perfect break.  I needed some time to slow down and reconnect with myself.  Sometimes we get so busy and just focus on all the things we need to get done that we forget about our emotions or the rest and downtime we may need.  For Michael and I it was the perfect chance to talk for hours, laugh, connect and relax together for an extended period of time.  Thankfully, it’s the summertime and more time off is on the horizon so I can look forward to more of this time in the near future! Until then, I’m focusing on the must do’s and letting go of the things that aren’t as important.  I’m hoping that this will give me more balance and down time to recover from those busy weeks!

How was your long weekend?  Have you enjoyed time off at home before?

Your mini-vacation sounds amazing! I did a lot of the same things during my weekend. I took a lazy nap on Saturday afternoon – I was up early to run a race and then finished the last couple chapters of a book I’d been reading. I certainly felt refreshed today. Glad to hear your time was relaxing too. Oh and guacamole and margaritas are a favorite combo of mine too!

The weather seems the same as here in the UK. I am a real home bird and just love potter, sounds like a perfect time.

I took Friday off, and although I was originally bummed about the weather not cooperating, it also helped me to slow down… as did Saturday, and most of Sunday! It also made me appreciate yesterday’s kayaking adventure a lot more, since I was truly grateful to see some sun. I’m glad you were able to relax a bit after being so busy!

    I love time off at home. To me, it’s way more relaxing than a vacation-vacation. Slow staring mornings with breakfast… coffee… blog-reading… a little Netflix… a good book… ahhhhh….
