December is a tough month when it comes to eating. The decadent holiday meals of Christmas and New Year’s, cookies, parties, dinner with friends to celebrate the holidays, work lunches and more give us plenty of opportunities to indulge and pack in the calories. I like to approach this month with a plan. Early December is always a good time to cut back and eat healthy. Most of our holiday parties and events don’t begin until mid-December so I like to prepare by cutting back on carbs and making an effort to get workouts in. This way I don’t feel bad about enjoying holiday meals and the occasional missed workout because I’m having too much fun!
Sunday morning was a lazy morning and it was the best. We slept in and lazed around drinking coffee and enjoying breakfast. I made a brie omelet with whole wheat toast, strawberry jam and fresh blackberries. It was so good!
I’ve been keeping it simple with sandwiches and fruit. We bought Boar’s Head BBQ Chicken with American Cheese. We are rather particular about what kind of deli meat we buy. Actually we only buy Boar’s Head. I’ve been enjoying it on a pita with mustard and lettuce. Goldfish and an apple on the side. Snacks this week have been clementines and chocolate rice cakes with peanut butter. Rice cakes are my new favorite snack! So good!
Random. Do you make your lunch in the morning or the night before? I go through phases of one versus the other. Right now I’m on a night before kick. I like the extra time in the morning to watch the today show and eat breakfast!
Saturday night was date night! We had spent the day decorating for Christmas and picking out our Christmas tree. We stopped at a meat market and bought quality steaks. On the side we made button mushrooms with a wine sauce, and caesar salad. We also cracked open a nice bottle of red wine. It was definitely a good little treat!
On our date night we each enjoyed a mini apple pie with vanilla ice cream. We also had apple pie with ice cream at at Michael’s sister’s house. I love warm apple pie!
