Gratitude for the Life I Live

Yesterday I was thinking about how grateful and happy I am with my life.  I realized I hadn’t stopped to share how my life has changed, how I like my new job and all that.  Today seemed like a great day for a life update!

The biggest change is my new job.  It has significantly changed my life; from my routine to my happiness to what I do everyday but I suppose a career change will do that.

I’ve been with Team In Training (TNT) and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society(LLS) for over a month now.  My main role is to manage my events and participants so they are successful with their fundraising.  The running comes second.  I love what I do! I get to spend most of my day talking to people who have a passion and interest for all the same things I do.  I’m currently managing the Nike Women’s Half Marathon team.  We are in the recruitment stage so I’m heading out to events around town to promote our program and the race.  I’m going to run clubs, and setting up tables at stores like Niketown and Athleta to promote.  For every participant that signs up I have a meeting with them so I’ve been doing those as well.  It’s a great opportunity to get to know our participants better, find out why they are connected to LLS and help them plan their fundraising.  I’m also working on our corporate program to help bring TNT to local Boston area businesses.  I’ve even had the chance to create a new blog for us and help to grow our social media presence. No day is ever the same and it’s so fun to meet new people!

I love my boss and my colleagues.  Our office is professional but fun and goofy at the same time.  Some days the team sits and has lunch together or has a good laugh when 4pm on Thursday rolls around. Yesterday we all had Dairy Queen as a little treat!  Our team and office is mostly women which is a huge change for me coming from science where it is predominately male.  I have to say I can’t complain.  It’s a great environment and team to work with!

Yoga teacher training has also helped me to change and grow in so many ways and it’s definitely contributing to my happiness lately.  I am grateful for all the friends I’ve made and the person becoming.  I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to co-teach with my friend Emily.  We are co-teaching our first class at Roots Yoga in Burlington on Tuesday! I CAN’T WAIT! It’s going to be amazing to do something I love so much and share it with others.

With all the new changes in my job and yoga I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my friends and family. Michael has been incredibly supportive throughout the whole process and it’s exciting to finally come home from work each day happy and eager to share the events.  He listened to my frustrations and anger for so long, he deserves to have a happy girlfriend everyday.  My parents are the biggest fans and they are always supporting me no matter what so it’s nice to share my happiness with them too.  The funny thing about when you make such a change in your life is that you kind of realize who you matter to and who don’t.  It’s been awesome and so meaningful to see some of my friends come through, like the weekly emails from my blogging friend Erin to see how it’s all going and making me pause and appreciate all the changes, and my running friends who I feel like I’ve grown closer to in recent weeks.  And my yoga family…talk about stepping up.  I can’t even call them friends…they are family.  Mary who is a fellow blogger who is always commenting and sharing my posts and reminding all of us how amazing and beautiful we are and Emily who has rallied some of the girls at Athleta to run the Nike Women’s Half with TNT and then  so graciously offered to co-teach a community class with me so I too could teach publicly.  And the rest of them, the daily (yes, daily) posts and love shared through Facebook…it always puts a smile on my face.  I’m so blessed to have their love and support in my life. I’m really so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing people who make my life that much better.

I finally feel like I’m living the life I always wanted.  I have a job love, time with the people I love and get to do all the things I love like running and yoga. I’m truly grateful to be at this place in my life and never knew changing my career and following my dreams could make me so happy.  I love when I’m stuck in traffic to put on my favorite playlist and sing along, smiling and reflecting on the life I have…it’s pretty amazing.

What are you grateful for?  When reflecting on your life, what makes you pause and smile?

Thanks for an encouraging post! I’m currently contemplating a career change and to hear how rewarding it is coming from someone who took that leap, is refreshing!
