What I Ate Wednesday! Montreal Style!

Happy Wednesday Loves! Don’t you just love starting your year with a 4 day work week? Short weeks are just the best!  I’m definitely missing the leisurely pace of vacation, the delicious food we had in Montreal and the time spent with Michael and my family.  Lucky for me I have LOTS going on this week and month to keep me busy!

Monday I revealed that Sparkly Soul Headbands is running a promotion with me! You get 15% off your purchase when you use the promo code WHITNEY.  They will donate 25% of the purchase to my fundraising efforts for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! I LOVE these headbands, if you’ve ever wanted one now’s the time to get some sparkle and help a great cause!

Yesterday I started a raffle for some great prize packs! The Grand Prize includes a $50 Holabird Sports Gift Card, a $25 Go Sport ID Gift Card, a 4-week workout plan created just for you and Sparkly Soul Headbands!! There are second and third prizes too!  A minimum $5 donation to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is required for entry! Check out all the details here!

Hopefully you’ll check those out and help a great cause!!

I spent New Years in Montreal with Michael! We had an amazing time.  It was relaxing, fun and filled with tons of delicious food.  We also spent some time in Burlington.  We got breakfast there on the way up to Montreal and spent a night there on the tail end of our trip!

Breakfast.

We went to the Burlington Bagel Bakery and Cafe for breakfast while we were there.  We love checking out local restaurants and this definitely fit the bill.  The had a ton of bagel flavors to choose from including a Asiago and red pepper bagel and a spinach herb bagel! For cream cheese they had some different ones too including a mexican one, and a bacon horseradish! I got a spinach and herb bagel with egg and pepper-jack cheese!  Michael had a whole wheat everything bagel with egg and cheddar cheese on his! We both got a Green Mountain coffee. I love that kind of coffee! Yes, I did have a few cups of coffee while on this trip…no harm done and I’m back to my tea now!

Dinner and Dessert.

As fate would have it one of my best friends who lives in New York decided to plan a last-minute trip to Montreal by herself.  She saw my post on Facebook about heading to Montreal and commented to tell me she was going too.  I saw it and called her right away.  We were able to meet up for dinner at Les Deux Gamins on the edge of downtown.  It was a little Parisian bistro.

We started with a bottle of house wine in both red and white.  For an appetizer we had a cheese plate with some various cheese, apricots, walnuts and a little mesculin mix salad.  They also brought a delicious baguette! For dinner I ordered a mushroom risotto with chicken.  It was delicious! The risotto had a wide variety of mushrooms in it including Shiitake and button mushrooms.  There was some homemade pesto on it and then the oven-roasted chicken! Yum!

We found this restaurant using Yelp and Trip Advisor.  Everyone who reviewed it said how delicious the Tiramisu and Creme Brulee was.  I was definitely going to order this to try it! We ordered both and shared them all.  The Creme Brulee was so creamy and delicious and the Tiramisu had some delicious liquor soaked lady fingers on the bottom with lots of chocolate in it.  Both were amazing!

I always think the best nights are the impromptu ones with good foods and great company! All of the food we had in Montreal was amazing, including a 9-course gourmet dinner we had on New Year’s Eve!

Did you do anything special for New Year’s Eve? Did you celebrate with good food?  Did you close out 2011 with good friends?

Visiting from wiaw! Yum- what a great eating day! I’ve always wanted to go to Montreal–we just moved away from Ithaca NY and never made the road trip while we were there. Hopefully some day!

There is this fabulous little restaurant by my house (a little pricey however) that makes thee best wild mushroom risotto. I can’t imagine how much cream and butter is in there…. but it is divine!

Oooo. And pepper jack cheese, the next best thing. 😉
